Associate Dean of Nursing – Sample Job Description

The Associate Dean of Nursing supports the Dean in managing both on-ground and online academic teams to ensure effective student teaching and program outcomes. Responsibilities include overseeing program administration in compliance with accrediting standards and regulatory guidelines.

Job Duties:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Lead program development, planning, implementation, oversight, evaluation, and accreditation.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities of the program.
  • Monitor trends in nursing, nursing education, and research.
  • Ensure adherence to University regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Establish strategic partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Dean to maintain a long-term vision for the nursing program.
  • Attend all scheduled mandatory meetings.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education & Knowledge:

  • Current unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Brunswick.
  • Postgraduate degree with concentration in Nursing, preferably in nursing administration or education.
  • Educational experience in teaching, learning principles, curriculum development, accreditation, and administration.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience, with 3 years as a nurse educator or program administrator.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Collaborative work style and effective time management.
  • Demonstrate command of theory and practice in the field.
  • Meet regulatory requirements for educational degree level and field experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 2 years of experience with a Learning Management System preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Empathetic and patient, with the ability to accommodate student challenges while maintaining educational standards.

Functional Demands:

  1. Frequent standing, hearing, sitting, walking, and speaking.
  2. Occasional carrying, object-handling, and reaching.
  3. Specific vision ability required for reading handwritten or typed material.
  4. Moderate to high computer usage.
  5. Noise level in work environment ranges from quiet to moderate.
