Director of International Student Recruitment
About the Role
An esteemed higher education institution in the United Kingdom is seeking a visionary and results-driven Director of International Student Recruitment to lead its global recruitment strategies. This critical leadership role is designed to drive international enrollment growth, build meaningful partnerships, and enhance the institution’s reputation in student markets worldwide.
The Director of International Student Recruitment operates at the highest level of the institution’s enrollment management function — carrying strategic accountability for market selection, agent and partnership networks, team performance, budget stewardship, and the quality of the international applicant experience from first contact through enrollment. For an experienced international recruitment leader ready to own a full global strategy at a respected UK institution, this is a genuine senior opportunity with real institutional scope.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute comprehensive international student recruitment strategies aligned with the institution’s goals for student diversity, enrollment targets, and market expansion across priority regions.
- Set annual and multi-year recruitment targets by source country and market segment, working with senior leadership to align strategy with institutional capacity and academic program priorities.
Market Analysis and Intelligence
- Identify, analyze, and prioritize key international student markets, leveraging data, competitor intelligence, and enrollment trends to inform recruitment plans and optimize outreach investments.
- Monitor shifts in international student mobility patterns, visa policy changes, and competitive positioning to proactively adjust strategy and protect enrollment pipeline integrity.
Partnership and Relationship Development
- Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with international secondary schools, universities, recruitment agents, government bodies, and community organizations to support recruitment initiatives.
- Develop and manage the institution’s agent and partner network, including performance monitoring, contract management, and ongoing training and compliance oversight.
- Serve as the face of the institution at international education fairs, recruitment events, and partner conferences, building meaningful long-term relationships with prospective students and institutional stakeholders.
Team Leadership
- Oversee and manage a team of international recruitment professionals, providing clear direction, regular coaching, and structured professional development support to achieve departmental goals.
- Foster a high-performance, student-centered team culture with strong accountability for recruitment outcomes and service quality.
Budget and Financial Oversight
- Develop and manage the international student recruitment budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, strong return on investment, and alignment with institutional financial planning.
- Produce regular budget performance reports and ROI analyses for senior leadership, with clear recommendations for reallocation or investment based on market performance data.
Marketing Collaboration
- Work closely with the marketing and communications team to design and implement targeted campaigns that resonate meaningfully with diverse cultural audiences across priority recruitment markets.
- Provide market-specific insights and applicant feedback to inform the development of culturally relevant digital content, print materials, and events programming.
Compliance and Student Experience
- Ensure all international recruitment practices align with UK student visa regulations, agent codes of conduct, institutional policies, and applicable ethical standards.
- Champion an exceptional experience for international applicants, ensuring they are guided clearly and supportively through the admissions process from inquiry through enrollment.
- Monitor and evaluate recruitment performance using CRM data and enrollment metrics, refining strategies continuously to achieve pipeline and conversion targets.
