Vice President for Academic Affairs – Warwick, RI
Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as a key member of the institution’s senior leadership team. This role is responsible for setting and executing the academic vision, driving innovation in educational policy, instructional planning, program review, academic personnel decisions, faculty development, and resource allocation.
The Vice President plays a critical leadership role in shaping the institution’s academic mission and ensuring alignment with strategic goals. This includes oversight of inter-institutional articulation agreements, developmental education strategies, and learning resources systems. The successful candidate will be a data-driven, visionary leader with a demonstrated ability to inspire and lead cross-functional teams while building meaningful relationships with stakeholders across the institution and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and operational oversight of all academic functions of the institution.
- Supervise and mentor academic deans and senior academic officers to ensure the delivery of high-quality, equitable academic programs that meet accreditation standards.
- Foster a culture of faculty excellence through support in teaching, scholarly activities, shared governance, and professional development.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the institution’s Academic Affairs Master Plan.
- Partner with Student Affairs and institutional leadership to deliver a cohesive and high-impact student experience.
- Work closely with Finance and Administration to ensure appropriate resource allocation that supports academic priorities and infrastructure.
- Drive cross-divisional collaboration to integrate non-credit and credit pathways that lead to workforce-relevant credentials.
- Serve as an institutional advocate in academic partnerships, community engagement, and educational collaborations.
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts, institutional effectiveness initiatives, and special projects as assigned by the President.
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.
- Minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience in higher education.
- Demonstrated senior-level academic leadership experience serving a diverse student body.
- Experience working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and unionized environments.
- Familiarity with regional and specialized accreditation processes, curriculum development, instructional technology, and assessment.
- Proven ability to manage academic budgets strategically and align resources with institutional priorities.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decision-making in Academic Affairs.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with the ability to foster a culture of respect and collaboration.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Qualifications that merit a tenured faculty appointment are strongly desired.
- Prior experience in a community college or similar access-oriented institution is highly preferred.
