What does a Medical Radiography Program Director do? A Medical Radiography Program Director leads a radiologic technology education program end to end: curriculum and instruction, faculty supervision, clinical and externship partnerships, student outcomes, and accreditation compliance with bodies such as JRCERT and ABHES.
Reporting to senior academic leadership, the Program Director plays a critical role in maintaining program quality, supporting student success, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement in line with industry and accreditation standards. The role works within the framework set by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and toward credentialing aligned with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Who Thrives as a Medical Radiography Program Director
The strongest candidates treat accreditation as part of running the program, not a once-a-year scramble. They are fluent in JRCERT and ABHES standards and keep curriculum, clinical placements, and student outcomes documented and audit-ready throughout the year, which is what protects program quality and standing.
Just as important is leading people. The role supervises faculty, coordinates clinical and externship partners, and stays close to student progress, so the people who do well here set clear expectations, develop their instructors, and step in early when a student needs remediation or support.
This is a hands-on academic leadership post in a healthcare field. The work spans administration, teaching quality, compliance, and student success in the same week, and the people who enjoy it are the ones motivated by turning out well-prepared radiologic technologists.
