This Group Manager, Vice President commercial construction opportunity is based in Beaverton, OR at a leading national firm. The position carries full accountability for a designated work program at every stage of the project lifecycle — from business development and preconstruction through project delivery and closeout. Group Manager Vice President: Core Responsibilities

Strategic and Executive Leadership

  • Partner with senior leadership on company strategy and roll out enterprise-wide initiatives, standards, and policies inside the work program.
  • Translate broader organizational plans into actionable direction for the team, covering all phases of project delivery.
  • Champion an injury-free work environment by setting the tone personally and coaching others on safe practices throughout the program.

Client Engagement

  • Serve as the senior point of contact for key clients, developing a thorough understanding of each client’s business and cultivating lasting relationships that generate repeat work and new opportunities.
  • Represent the company at a leadership level throughout preconstruction, coordinating internally and with outside partners on estimates, schedules, staffing approaches, and business plans tied to contractual commitments.

Growth and Business Development for the Commercial Construction Program

  • Own the work program’s growth strategy in alignment with company goals and KSIs.
  • Identify new opportunities, qualify leads, shape RFP responses, and craft win strategies based on a strong read of the competitive landscape, fee benchmarks, internal capacity, and market positioning.
  • Play an active role in pursuits, presentations, and marketing efforts.
  • Negotiate contracts to protect margin, mitigate risk, and lock in favorable terms.

Risk Oversight

  • Function as the escalation point for project, contractual, financial, and client risks across the program.
  • Work through staffing challenges, schedule pressures, subcontractor matters, and change orders.
  • Conduct risk assessments and elevate concerns to leadership with proposed paths forward, negotiating contingency spend and fee adjustments as appropriate.

Project Delivery and Resource Planning

  • Review project health throughout the lifecycle to confirm contractual targets are met and team accountability is upheld.
  • Keep staffing aligned with contractual commitments, schedules, and program constraints, adjusting resource plans as conditions change.

Subcontractor Partnerships

  • Cultivate strong, durable relationships with the subcontractor community.
  • Drive qualification and selection processes to align partners with project goals and shape the broader subcontractor strategy for the program.

Culture and Community

  • Promote diversity and inclusion across the organization and apply the company’s non-discrimination policy consistently and proactively.
  • Take a visible role in the community and industry through board service, networking, and external representation of the company.

Group Manager Vice President: Qualifications and Commercial Construction Experience

Education and Experience

Required Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent professional experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 10 years in construction management.
  • Minimum 5 years leading people in a construction management environment.
  • Demonstrated success running multiple large or complex projects, or multiple teams, simultaneously.
Knowledge and Skills

Required Competencies

  • Advanced written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Advanced fluency in construction technology and intermediate proficiency with MS Office.
  • Intermediate proficiency with construction project management and accounting platforms such as CMiC.
  • Intermediate command of Lean methodology.
  • Advanced ability to manage budgets, drive profitability, and generate future work.
  • Capability in estimating and productivity analysis.
  • Solid understanding of MBE, WBE, and SBA program requirements.
  • Working knowledge of corporate risk management practices.

Work Environment

Location
Beaverton, OR office — hybrid with 2 work-from-home days per week.
Travel
Periods of overnight travel may be required. Valid, unrestricted driver’s license required.
Schedule
Willingness to work non-traditional hours when projects call for it.
