Core Faculty, Physical Therapy Role Overview

Excelon Associates is conducting a search on behalf of a confidential health sciences institution for a full-time Core Faculty member in Physical Therapy in Irving, TX. The faculty member provides engaging, clinically focused learning opportunities for students pursuing careers in the health sciences, with instruction delivered through face-to-face, blended, hybrid, and online formats.

Beyond teaching, this individual provides academic advising, oversees final program projects, contributes to curriculum development, participates in institutional committees, advocates for the profession, and engages in scholarly activities. The position reports to the Academic Program Director or Assistant Academic Program Director and supervises contributing faculty members and laboratory assistants when assigned to courses. Physical therapy education operates within the accreditation and professional frameworks set by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, the American Physical Therapy Association, and the licensure standards of the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Provide student-centered learning experiences using evidence-based teaching practices.
• Create classroom, laboratory, and online learning environments that are engaging, challenging, inclusive, and conducive to student success.
• Develop creative and clinically relevant learning opportunities aligned with course and program outcomes.
• Use student assessment data and learning outcomes to improve instruction and curriculum.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives designed to meet programmatic and institutional goals.
• Prepare and maintain current, accurate, organized instructional materials.
• Manage all components of the learning environment, including online course portals and learning management systems.
• Facilitate effective instruction across small, large, blended, hybrid, and online classroom settings while managing instructional time and student engagement.

Scholarship and Professional Development

• Actively participate in scholarly activities that advance knowledge within the discipline.
• Establish and implement an approved scholarship plan and faculty development plan in accordance with accreditation and institutional standards.
• Maintain current knowledge of clinical practice, research, and evidence relevant to the faculty member’s area of expertise.
• Engage in professional development activities that support continued growth as an educator and practitioner.
• Disseminate scholarly work and contribute to the discipline through research, scholarship, professional practice, consultation, or creative activity.

Institutional and Professional Service

• Serve on programmatic and institutional committees as assigned.
• Participate actively in relevant professional associations and represent the institution through community, clinical, and professional activities.
• Participate in institutional governance, curriculum planning, and activities that support institutional development and growth.
• Use approved release time to enhance the academic program through clinical practice, consultation, advanced education, research, or professional service.

Academic Administration

• Serve as a course coordinator or lead instructor when assigned.
• Collaborate with faculty, administrators, staff, and other members of the academic team.
• Advise students on academic, professional, and personal matters and provide appropriate referrals when needed.
• Oversee final program projects and other assigned student learning activities.
• Complete an annual faculty performance self-evaluation and establish annual goals in collaboration with the Academic Program Director.
• Participate actively in faculty development opportunities designed to support performance goals.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• Terminal academic degree in an appropriate discipline.
• A minimum of one year of teaching experience at the college or university level at the Instructor rank or above.
• A minimum of two years of clinical experience related to the assigned course content.

Preferred

• Experience with distance learning, online instruction, or hybrid education.
• Experience conducting or contributing to scholarly activity.

Licensure and Credentials

• Possess the academic and professional credentials appropriate for the discipline being taught.
• Hold an earned degree from an accredited institution or an institution recognized by the applicable country’s ministry of education.
