Financial Aid Advisor II Role Overview
Excelon Associates is conducting a search on behalf of a private university client for a Financial Aid Advisor II based at the client's Orlando, Florida campus. What does a Financial Aid Advisor II do? A Financial Aid Advisor II helps college students secure the financial assistance they qualify for. The role evaluates eligibility, processes FAFSAs, awards and adjusts aid packages, resolves student appeals, explains federal and state requirements to students and parents, and prepares the reports and funding applications that keep an institution's aid programs running and compliant.
Day to day, the advisor works inside the systems and rules that govern student aid in the United States. FAFSA records are input daily through the university's student information system, Campus Nexus by Anthology, alongside the Microsoft Office suite. Awards must align with the federal Title IV requirements administered by Federal Student Aid, an office of the US Department of Education, as well as state programs. Many practitioners in this field develop their expertise through the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and its state counterpart, the Florida Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

Who Thrives as a Financial Aid Advisor
This role rewards precision. The strongest candidates treat accuracy, confidentiality, and organization as daily habits, because every award they touch has to hold up under federal and state regulations. They stay comfortable processing a steady queue of FAFSAs and needs analyses while keeping individual student files clean, current, and audit-ready.
It is also a student-facing seat. People who do well here explain complicated eligibility rules in plain language, stay patient with anxious students and parents, and handle appeals with consistency and empathy. Regular coordination with the Admissions Department means the advisor works as part of a campus enrollment team rather than in a back office.
Finally, the work moves on enrollment deadlines. The best fit is motivated by goals and productivity targets, can flex into evenings and weekends during peak periods, and wants to build a career at an institution devoted to academic excellence, innovation, and human development.
