Scientist 1, Protein Sciences, plays an important role in the discovery-stage research of biotherapeutics gene therapies and small-molecule drug candidates. The Scientist 1 works within multidisciplinary teams of scientists/research associates to provide experimental and/or analytical expertise in designing, purifying and characterizing protein-based drug candidates or drug targets. He or she also uses analytical techniques to do an especially thorough job of characterizing proteins.
As a scientist in the Protein Sciences group within the Genetics Research & Delivery department, the Scientist 1 is responsible for providing expertise in biochemistry, protein chemistry or biophysics (chromatography, HPLC, enzyme activity assays, spectroscopy, Octet, ITC, MALS, and mass spec.) to:
The Scientist 1 plans and executes experimental protocols, presents results at project team or departmental meetings, and engages in collaborative teamwork.
A candidate with a background in biochemistry and protein chemistry is preferred. The ideal candidate not only demonstrates extensive experience in protein purification, but also possesses complementary technical skills in cellular biochemistry, protein chemistry and biophysical bench work.
Experience in Akta-based protein purification, ultrafiltration/diafiltration, and clarification processes is required. Experience in bacterial fermentation, cell culture and cell-based assay development is highly desired. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively in teams of scientists/research associates with diverse backgrounds, and efficiently manage time in order to organize, prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced work environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a high degree of personal responsibility are valued.
