Electrical Trades Technology Program Director – Somerset, NJ
The Program Director oversees all instructional and operational aspects of the Electrical Trades Technology program. This includes faculty management, curriculum oversight, accreditation compliance, student support, and program outcomes such as retention and job placement. The Director will also maintain a teaching load and be responsible for identifying clinical or externship sites, if applicable.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & Faculty Oversight
- Recruit, interview, and recommend faculty hires
- Onboard and train new instructors on curriculum and teaching methods
- Supervise departmental faculty and manage class scheduling
- Conduct classroom observations and performance evaluations
- Lead department meetings and contribute to strategic planning
Instructional Duties
- Maintain a teaching load as assigned
- Substitute teach as needed and develop instructional materials
- Evaluate and improve curriculum with support from faculty and leadership
Student Support & Retention
- Promote a positive learning environment fostering academic and professional growth
- Provide academic advising and support to students experiencing challenges
- Communicate progress trends and issues with leadership
- Administer retention initiatives to meet accreditation benchmarks
Accreditation & Compliance
- Ensure the program meets or exceeds all applicable accreditation standards
- Maintain syllabi, course records, and compliance documentation
- Participate in internal and external audits as needed
Externship Management (if applicable)
- Establish and maintain sufficient clinical/externship partnerships
- Monitor site quality, student experience, and documentation
Administrative & Committee Involvement
- Attend and contribute to Advisory Board and Curriculum Review meetings
- Participate in campus events, including graduation ceremonies
- Fulfill other duties as assigned
QualificationsRequired:
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years of experience in residential, commercial, or industrial electrical work (or alarm/control systems)
- Prior teaching and/or managerial experience
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment
- Basic computer literacy
Preferred:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Teams)
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
