Cosmetology Program Director – Ridgeland, MS
An established and reputable institution is seeking an experienced and passionate Cosmetology Program Director to lead its Cosmetology program with excellence, ensuring high levels of student and faculty satisfaction. This role focuses on compliance with academic policies, training, retention, staff development, and overall program success. Reporting to the Director of Education or Campus President, the Program Director plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive academic environment that aligns with the institution’s mission.
Key Qualifications:
- Experience & Credentials: A minimum of three years in the Cosmetology field, with both an active Cosmetology License and Cosmetology Instructor License. Licensing in the relevant state is preferred but not required for candidates who align with the institution’s values and mission.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate, and support students and faculty, with sensitivity to individual needs.
- Curriculum Expertise: Deep understanding of course content and proficiency in all skills taught within the program, ensuring program quality and compliance with accreditation standards.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and database management.
- Educational Insight: Knowledge of educational theory and techniques through formal education, continuing education, or in-service training is a plus.
- Professionalism: Commitment to high standards of integrity and professionalism, with the stamina to oversee activities requiring extended periods of standing.
Core Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development: Lead curriculum planning and continuous review to ensure alignment with institutional and state board standards.
- Instructional Oversight: Ensure instructors adhere to the approved curriculum, providing guidance and support as needed. The Program Director may also serve as a substitute instructor when required.
- Compliance Management: Maintain accreditation standards and regularly update leadership on placement, retention, and certification exam results.
- Student Support and Engagement: Provide academic coaching, manage disciplinary actions related to academics, attendance, and conduct, and foster an environment that encourages student success.
- Career Placement Support: Assist students with job placement, writing reference letters, and accessing relevant resources to enhance career outcomes.
- Team Leadership: Supervise faculty, create module schedules, ensure optimal student-teacher ratios, and uphold instructional policies and procedures.
- Meetings and Events: Participate in key meetings, events, and ceremonies, including staff meetings, advisory board meetings, graduation ceremonies, open houses, and instructor training sessions.
- Staff Development: Conduct staff observations, provide feedback, implement growth plans, hold coaching sessions and quarterly reviews, and assist in hiring program personnel.
- Inventory Oversight: Coordinate the ordering of program supplies within budget guidelines, pending approval by leadership.
- Professional Development: Support advisory board meetings and attend educational conferences to maintain professional certifications through continuing education.
