Director of Student Services – Houston, TX
Our client is seeking a Director of Student Services to lead and manage student retention initiatives at a large campus in Houston, TX. This position is fully responsible for overseeing retention efforts and guiding a dedicated team to ensure the continued success of students. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in retention strategies, a strong grasp of student performance metrics, and the ability to implement actionable plans to enhance student engagement and persistence. This is a hands-on leadership role that works closely with the Director of Career Services (DOCS) and the Director of Education (DOE) to meet and exceed institutional goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Retention Efforts: Oversee and be fully responsible for student retention initiatives, driving efforts to meet and exceed retention goals.
- Manage and Develop Team: Manage a team consisting of two advisors, the registrar, and the LRC (Learning Resource Center) coordinator. Provide guidance, coaching, and oversight to ensure all retention strategies are executed effectively.
- Student Outreach: Implement and oversee outreach programs, including phone calls and personalized action plans, to ensure students remain engaged and supported throughout their academic journey.
- Metrics & Reporting: Analyze student retention metrics and ensure all strategies align with institutional goals. Use data to inform decisions and improve retention rates.
- Collaborative Partnerships: Work closely with the DOCS and DOE to form a true partnership focused on student success and retention.
- Leadership & Accountability: This is not a training role. We are looking for a leader with the ability to push towards a target of 1,500 students, working in a high-paced environment with a focus on growth and retention.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in student retention and services, preferably at a large campus or institution.
- Strong understanding of retention metrics and the ability to implement data-driven strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, including advisors and administrative staff.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
- A self-starter who can work independently while ensuring alignment with broader institutional goals.
