Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) – Tampa, FL

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The Deputy CEO (DCEO) is a key leadership position responsible for supporting the CEO in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the university across all areas of its activity. The DCEO will play a critical role in driving the university’s strategic initiatives and delivering outstanding student outcomes. This position requires international travel to various campuses and partner institutions to support global operations and build strategic relationships.

As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the DCEO will collaborate closely with key department heads, including the Provost, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Finance Director, Director of Accreditation and Compliance, Head of Institutional Research (IR) and Communications, Human Resources, and campus directors.

Purpose of the Role:

  • Support the CEO in ensuring operational excellence and the delivery of high-quality education and student experiences.
  • Lead and oversee the implementation of key strategic projects that align with the university’s mission and objectives.
  • Foster a strong organizational culture that reflects the university’s values and strategic direction.
  • Establish and uphold clear management practices that promote effective leadership and accountability across all departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • The Deputy CEO will collaborate with the CEO and SMT to drive strategic initiatives, assuming responsibility for specific priorities and objectives as assigned.
  • Align academic and professional services operations to enhance student outcomes and experiences.

Operational Coordination:

  • Ensure efficient cross-departmental collaboration, empowering senior colleagues to achieve institutional goals.
  • Oversee and enhance data-driven decision-making by ensuring streamlined information flows across the organization.

Cultural Development:

  • Promote a culture of transparency, shared responsibility, and collaboration across all university functions.
  • Implement initiatives that strengthen teamwork and communication among departments.

Interim Leadership:

  • Act as the CEO’s delegate when required, representing the university in external and internal matters and making key decisions in the CEO’s absence.

Performance Management:

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of strategic initiatives, providing regular progress updates to the CEO and SMT.
  • Identify areas for operational improvement and drive continuous enhancements across the university.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Advanced degree in education, business administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of senior leadership experience within higher education or a related sector.
  • Proven track record in managing strategic projects and achieving operational excellence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally as required.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to influence and inspire a diverse team.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Deep understanding of the higher education landscape, particularly in U.S. and international contexts.
