Dean of Nursing – Practical Nursing (LPN) Program

Location: Atlanta, GA
Reports to: Campus President

The Dean of the Practical Nursing Program holds full responsibility for overseeing the success and integrity of the Practical Nursing (LPN) program. This leadership role includes curriculum development, faculty management, student advising, externship coordination, teaching, and program compliance.

Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum

  • Teach assigned courses and serve as a substitute instructor when needed.
  • Oversee the design, development, revision, and assessment of the program curriculum, including instructional methods, learning outcomes, and assessments.
  • Recommend instructional materials, textbooks, supplies, and equipment; ensure instructional safety and quality.
  • Lead special projects as assigned by the Campus President (e.g., orientation, accreditation preparation, campus events).
  • Actively engage in student retention activities and maintain ongoing communication regarding student progress and attendance.
  • Assist with course registration, academic advising, and mentor instructors in academic counseling techniques.
  • Coordinate with the Clinical Coordinator on externship site development, student placement, and performance monitoring.
  • Identify at-risk students and refer them to academic support services.
  • Ensure course and program outcomes align with institutional objectives and syllabi.
  • Maintain safety and sanitation standards for all labs, equipment, and supplies (if applicable).

Leadership & Program Management

  • Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate program instructors.
  • Facilitate regular faculty meetings to ensure curriculum relevance and instructional quality.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional growth through education in teaching methods, curriculum design, or assessment.
  • Chair Advisory Board meetings at least twice per year and develop community partnerships to support job placement and externship opportunities.
  • Attend scheduled faculty meetings, in-service trainings, and institutional events.
  • Uphold academic policies and procedures and support compliance with the faculty handbook and catalog.
  • Support program evaluation, strategic planning, and goal-setting with the Campus President.
  • Ensure faculty maintain current licensure, certifications, and professional development.
  • Foster a respectful, engaging, and communicative learning environment for students.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries and concerns.
  • Participate in graduation ceremonies and institutional milestones.
  • Conduct or support the annual performance evaluation of program faculty.

Professional Development

  • Attend regular in-service training and discipline-specific professional development events.
  • Complete an annual performance appraisal with the Campus President.
  • Maintain required licensure, certifications, and credentials as outlined by accrediting and regulatory agencies.

QualificationsEducation & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Practical Nurse.
  • At least 1–2 years of teaching experience in Practical Nursing.

Licensure & Certification

  • Certification in Practical Nursing.
  • Active and valid professional license as required by the state.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication abilities.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities.
