JOB SUMMARY:
 
As a member of the Provost’s Council and the University’s Leadership Team, the Dean for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences works collaboratively across Academic Affairs and the University as a whole to advance the quality of the college’s online academic programming and course instruction, with a focus on personalizing the complete student experience.  To accomplish this, the Dean must be able to analyze and communicate results from metrics and reports focused on both academic quality, such as student learning outcomes assessment and instructor/student engagement in the course, as well as those focused on operations, such as student enrollments and retention.

The Dean must also have a vision for the future growth of the college- both in enrollments and program offerings.  The Dean reports directly to the Provost and is the college’s senior academic and administrative leader.  He/she is responsible for providing dynamic leadership to one undergraduate program (RN-BSN) and three graduate programs (Healthcare MBA, MSN with four non-NP and 3 NP specializations, and DNP with four specializations).
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and manage the college’s operational and personnel budget and participate in the University-wide budgeting process.
  • Lead the college’s strategic planning with a focus on developing and implementing new degree programs and specializations.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Accreditation to maintain CCNE and ACEN accreditation and to ensure compliance with 45+ state Boards of Nursing.
  • Support the Assistant and Associate Deans in hiring, evaluating, and developing effective and dedicated faculty for the college to foster a culture of transparency, student focus, creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement and to meet the needs of nursing and healthcare programs. 
  • Performs in a key leadership role by modeling the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion values and advancing the strategic position to be a bold leader within the community and nationally.
  • Provide leadership in the development, enhancement, and review of the academic policies for the college, assure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agency regulations, and, with the Provost, effectively communicate all such policies to students, faculty, staff, and the University community.
  • Advance University’s culture of continuous improvement by leading the college’s program learning outcomes assessment process through the ongoing evaluation of course quality, student satisfaction, and teaching effectiveness.
  • Support the University’s Partnership Engagement efforts by assisting the Director of Partnership Engagement in developing and cultivating corporate/organizational partnerships.
  • Actively participate on the University’s Leadership Team to support the University-wide strategic planning process with specific accountability and advocacy for the college.
  • Pull data from various sources (raw data and established reports) to review, evaluate, and communicate the college’s progress towards University and/or Academic Affairs Strategic Plan goals.
  • Represent the nursing and healthcare programs with healthcare organizations and at conferences.
  • Review and act on student concerns raised in the college, including but not limited to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) dismissal appeals and violations of Civility Code and Academic Dishonesty policies.
  • Work with Assistant Provost and Marketing department to ensure that academic content in the Catalog and on the website (and other University publications) is accurate and representative of the college.
  • Communicate effectively and transparently to ensure timely communication of information across the College, Academic Affairs, and/or the University.
  • Foster the University culture to “Make It Personal” by working cross-functionally across the University and enhancing the culture of collaboration and respect among all Faculty, Associates, and Students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The successful candidate will possess a terminal nursing degree from an accredited University, a Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited University, and a minimum of ten years of experience in higher education or related professional field. 
  • Other qualifications include knowledge of and experience in adult education (theory, pedagogy, and andragogy) as it relates to online and competency-based learning modalities; experience designing and teaching courses in the online modality; demonstrated success in an academic higher education program and curriculum development; experience with faculty/staff professional development; experience with budgets and fiscal management; a proven record of effective leadership through collaborative and shared decision making; proactive, action-oriented, get-it-done mentality; excellent interpersonal communication skills; an innovative vision for the future of business programming in Higher Education (particularly in the online modality); a demonstrated understanding of the role of the ‘Business of Education’ in Academic Affairs; the ability to balance advocacy for the college with the greater needs of the University; and a deep commitment to the goals of online education.
