Dean of Education – Towson, MD
Reports to: Campus President
The Dean of Education is responsible for the overall operation and effectiveness of the institution’s education department. This includes the management and supervision of all faculty members (both full-time and adjunct), externship coordinators, and initiatives related to instructor turnover, student retention, and curriculum development. The Academic Dean ensures that instructional strategies are effectively implemented to prepare students for entry-level employability upon graduation.
Additionally, this role involves overseeing the development of new academic programs, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and fulfilling institutional objectives. The Dean of Education is expected to stay current with industry trends to maintain the relevance of course materials and provide training for instructors on effective teaching strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and regularly update teaching strategies, lesson plans, and classroom methodologies.
- Ensure that all instructors adhere to approved lesson plans and foster a motivating and engaging learning environment.
- Monitor and support faculty in maintaining accurate student records, including attendance, academic performance, and progress reports.
- Ensure that all classrooms are well-equipped, clean, and conducive to learning.
- Manage supply inventory and requisitions to facilitate smooth lab operations.
- Maintain and enforce institutional policies regarding student progress and academic performance.
- Conduct faculty evaluations, department meetings, and instructor training sessions.
- Lead the hiring, onboarding, and professional development of new instructors.
- Collaborate with the School Director to address student academic concerns, including probation, suspensions, and terminations.
- Oversee and coordinate the institution’s externship programs and supervise externship coordinators.
- Work with Career Services to align academic programs with industry needs and employer expectations.
- Assist administrative and financial planning personnel with reporting and student progress tracking.
- Maintain expertise in the CLASS software system to enter and analyze academic data.
- Develop faculty schedules and assign instructors in coordination with the School Director’s Office.
- Ensure institutional policies and procedures are followed consistently.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Required Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Previous supervisory or management experience in an academic setting is preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to achieve institutional goals.
Work Hours:
- Typically 40 hours per week.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Travel Requirement:
- No travel required.
Working Environment:
- Interior office environment within the academic institution.
