Clinical Coordinator, Medical Radiography Program – Sherman Oaks, CA
Reporting to the Director of Medical Radiology, the Clinical Coordinator (CC) serves as a core faculty member responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the clinical education component of the Medical Radiography curriculum. This role ensures the program delivers current, high-quality radiology education and meets its stated goals. The CC oversees all aspects of the externship program, ensuring affiliated clinical sites provide meaningful, structured learning experiences. Acting as a liaison between the Medical Radiography program and clinical education partners, the CC plays a critical role in maintaining strong relationships and ensuring compliance with accreditation and program standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordination of Clinical Placement
- Arrange and coordinate externship placements for medical radiography students.
- Provide training and support to clinical preceptors.
- Conduct student orientation and ensure completion of required documentation prior to externship start.
- Track and monitor compliance requirements, including immunization records, transcripts, and certifications.
- Secure sufficient externship sites to meet program needs and maintain accurate, up-to-date site contracts.
- Initiate, review, and finalize affiliation agreements as required.
- Conduct preliminary evaluations of potential externship sites to assess suitability.
- Facilitate externship and site assignment orientation workshops.
- Conduct monthly visits to clinical sites to evaluate student progress and site quality.
- Manage high volumes of communication with students and employers, including phone calls, email, and record-keeping.
- Collaborate with the Registrar to ensure accurate student record management.
- Collect and assess externship documentation to evaluate student experience and outcomes.
- Oversee the educational process of students throughout the clinical externship period.
- Contribute to the development of strategies for sustaining and expanding clinical partnerships.
- Perform additional duties and projects as directed by the Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Radiography, Radiologic Technology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and registration, or equivalent, in radiography.
- Completion of a JRCERT-accredited program in radiologic technology.
- Current ARRT and CRT required.
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association) preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in Medical Radiography.
- Minimum of three (3) years of work experience as a staff radiologic technologist.
- Prior experience in clinical education or student learning outcomes assessment preferred.
- Background in undergraduate clinical medical radiography education strongly desired.
- Advanced imaging modality experience (CT, MRI, Mammography) preferred.
- Experience in higher education or a college setting preferred.
- Familiarity with distance learning and alternative instructional delivery systems a plus.

Travel
- Regular travel is required. Site visits to clinical locations are conducted to evaluate site suitability and monitor student performance.
Supervision
The Clinical Coordinator reports directly to the Program Director.
